JONESBORO Jonesboro's aggressive defensive front caused a shut out with a 34-0 victory over the Panthers.
In the first quarter, Decari Farley of the Cardinals picked off the Panther's quarterback which led to a score by running back Jakim Rushin. A low snap during the extra point caused the holder to try to run it in, but Forest Park gets the stop. The first quarter ended with Jonesboro leading 6-0
Jonesboro's senior Devon Rainey wreaked havoc on Forest Park, getting two sacks in the second quarter alone. Farley got a defensive score by recovering a live ball and running it back for a score. But the Cardinals failed at the 2pt-conversion and the half ended with the Panthers trailing by 12.
Jonesboro continued where they left off from in the second half.
The Cardinals added two more touchdowns, and converting on 2pt-conversions, and stopped the ground game that Forest Park tried to utilize. Rainey would get to the quarterback again for another sack in the third quarter.
With having the 28-0 lead early in the fourth, Jonesboro gets called for two unsportsman like conduct penalties within three plays from each other. This led to a player getting ejected from the game.
Despite the penalty calls, Forest Park could not make a comeback. An immaculate TD catch from Cardinal's wide receiver Javon Dorsey over the corner would put the nail in the coffin.
This win ends Jonesboro's two game losing streak and give them their first regional game win on the season. They have a home game against Rockdale County September 23.
Now 1-3, Forest Park will try to regroup and prepare for their next game against the Mundy's Mill Tigers September 23.
