RIVERDALE From trailing 36-22 at the half, Spalding had an explosive fourth quarter to come-from-behind and win the game in Raider territory.
The Jaguars opened the fourth with three straight threes which not only gave them the lead, but gave them all the momentum to make a run. Junior Xavian Phillips (16 points) sparked the run with three triples in the period. His hot hand with fellow junior Curt Clark (19 points) drives in the inside helped Spalding score 25 points in the fourth.
Riverdale attempted a late game comeback down 11 with four minutes left. They went on a 13-7 run with their scoring in transition was capped off with a triple from junior Mariah Jones to bring them within two with the 65-63 score.
But with 1.1 left in the game, the Raiders tried a full-court heave off the Jaguars missed free throw but it was no good, giving Spalding the win
The third quarter was the turning point for both teams. Spalding played more aggressive in the second half, attempting 1o free-throw shots compared to Riverdale's three.
The Raiders, who scored primarily in the inside and shot the ball well in the first half, couldn't get anything going. They steered away from attacking the basket to settling for shots on the perimeter.
With this win, Spalding improves to 6-1 and extend their winning streak to six.
