Mount Zion could not get a win on their home-court against regional rivals North Clayton and Stephenson.

Vs. North Clayton
The first of three matches on the day began with North Clayton and Mt. Zion.

Both teams kept the score close with no one taking a lead larger than five the entire first set. It wasn't until sophomore Kayla Kennedy of North Clayton broke the 16-16 tie with a spike that allowed the Lady Eagles to go on a small run. North Clayton claimed the first set by winning eight of the 12 last rallies, finishing with a final score of 25-20.

The second set belonged to the Lady Eagles. Junior Bre Mosely deceived the Lady Bulldogs on a rally by faking a set and hitting the ball backgrounds into the front row.

North Clayton got on to a 17-8 lead with notably scoring coming from Kennedy with aces or kills. Mt. Zion had a few digs to keep rallies alive, but the Lady Eagles closed out the set 25-11.

Vs. Stephenson
Stephenson lead for a majority of the first set, but the Lady Bulldogs prevented them from going on runs that kept the game out of reach. Plays like a block by sophomore Raniya Rainey of Mt. Zion and errors from Stephenson kept them in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs tied the score at 15, but that would be the closest they got at trying to the lead. The Lady Jaguars closed out strong with a 10-4 run to win the first set.

Mt. Zion fell a part in the second set. A 16-2 start with Stephenson celebrating every score demoralized the team. They began making a small run off the Lady Jaguars' errors, but ultimately Stephenson controlled the entire set. They finished the set 25-9 and win both their matches on the day.

Before Mt. Zion took park in the contests today, they were undergoing new changes in the staff.

"We had a [head] coach previously, he's recently was replaced," said new head coach of the Mt. Zion Varsity Volleyball team Stephanie Roberts. "We're going through a transitional period, so it was a very difficult time today."

The Lady Bulldogs next opponent is Elite Scholars Academy in their territory September 19.
