RIVERDALE Drew and McNair came into the game 0-2, but only one could end their streak. The Mustangs kept their lead and closed out the game to get their first win.
Senior Malachi Jackson led the way for McNair. He made a mark on this game with his 3pt shooting whether it was in transition or a from nearly 23-feet out. Not only was he a threat outside, he took the ball inside and finished around the cup.
The Mustangs lead for the majority of the game. They got most of their points driving to the basket or getting found and sent to there free throw line. But no matter much they scored, McNair could not lose Drew.
The Titans had the game within their reach and never let it go out of hand. They matched the Mustangs aggressiveness and went inside to score or draw fouls. But instead of a single player hitting from behind the arc, the Titans had multiple players shooting to get them in the game. At the half, McNair led at the half 28-23.
In the third, senior Dacorian Carroll of Drew got things going with a three to get the crowd engaged. Junior DaVon Stamps followed with four straight 3s to get the crowd, and his team, into a frenzy with the score being 44-40. But Jackson came back on the other end and nailed a three to silence the crowd and halt the Titan's momentum.
Drew opened the fourth on a 6-4 run that included a three-point play from sophomore Camarion Carter followed by a three. But Jackson responded with three ball from the parking lot to silence the crowd.
McNair's sophomore Xavier Oliver took over the fourth with his scoring inside and the midrange area. The Titans could not gather a scoring run to get them over the Mustangs.
Drew falls to 0-3 on the season while McNair improves to 1-2.
