JONESBORO The Lady Eagles defeated Mount Zion at their home-court for their first win of the season, but fell to Stephenson in the following match.
Vs. Mt. Zion
The first of three matches on the day began with North Clayton and Mt. Zion.
Both teams kept the score close with no one taking a lead larger than five the entire first set. It wasn't until sophomore Kayla Kennedy of North Clayton broke the 16-16 tie with a spike that allowed the Lady Eagles to go on a small run. North Clayton claimed the first set by winning eight of the last 12 rallies, finishing with a final score of 25-20.
The second set belonged to the Lady Eagles. Junior Bre Mosely deceived the Lady Bulldogs on a rally by faking a set and hitting the ball backgrounds into the front row.
North Clayton got on to a 17-8 lead with notably scoring coming from Kennedy with aces or kills. Mt. Zion had a few digs to keep rallies alive, but the Lady Eagles closed out the set 25-11.

Vs. Stephenson
Following their victory against Mt. Zion, North Clayton faced regional rivals Stephenson.
Junior Tamaya Woods made her presents known in the set. From diving down with digs to spiking the ball at any opportunity, she helped the Lady Eagles claim the first set.
But something flipped in the second set.
The Lady Jaguars played more concise and limited their errors, while North Clayton began to lose their edge from the first set. With Stephenson ahead 12-5, the Lady Eagles' head coach Fredric Hill called a timeout to stop this run. But the Lady Jaguars could not be slowed down, winning the set 25-16.
Down to final set, the score to win was 15. After a back and forth lead change, Stephenson took the lead at 7-6 and never looked back. They claimed the third set 15-9 to prevent North Clayton from being undefeated on the day.
The Lady Eagles next opponent is Westlake September 19.
