ELLENWOOD Seniors Nick Jones-Hill and Henry Dowdell led Lovejoy's third quarter charge to take the lead and run off with the 76-67 victory.
The Wildcats outscored Morrow 29-20 with Jones-Hill and Dowdell scoring 18. Dowdell made his living at the charity stripe with Jones-Hill stretching the floor with perimeter shooting from the inside and outside.
Despite both sides going back-and-forth, the Mustangs had the edge over Lovejoy in the first half. Morrow's physical defense and rim protection disrupted Lovejoy's offense. But their physicality came back to hurt them as they sent the Wildcats to the free-throw line to keep them in the game. The Mustangs lead 34-30 at the half.
In the start of the second half, Lovejoy adjusted to Morrow's full-court press with patient, coordinated passes to get the ball up the court.
The Wildcats ran the break off turnovers or missed shots to keep their momentum going to secure the game.
As Lovejoy ends their two game losing streak, they improve to 9-7 on the season. These two clubs will meet again January 18 in Wildcats territory.
