FOREST PARK Lady Panthers shooting guard Yasmine Allen finishes the game with 15 points to become the third person in Forest Park's athletics to reach this feat. She joins the likes of Forest Park alumnae Ashlee Cole and Sania Feagin in surpassing 1,000 points for the program.
Needing just eight points to reach the mark, the young junior scored her 1000th point with a three-pointer to wrap up an eight-point first quarter. Her parents were filled with joy as they waved a custom-made poster celebrating their daughter's achievement. This was a huge moment for Allen and it was something she has been waiting to achieve for a long time.
"It feels great because I always dreamed of scoring 1,000 [points] in high school," said Allen. "But I'm going for 2,000 my senior year so that would be great."
Per Maxpreps, Allen averages 18.4 point per game and shoots 38% from downtown. Lady Panthers head coach Steve Cole praises her ability to shoot the ball well and being the go-to shooter.
"She's a really good shooter," said Coach Cole. "Telling her don't worry about the ones you miss, worry about the ones you're going to make next time down the court.
Unfortunately, the night ended early for the sharpshooter as she checked out in the fourth quarter with 4:40 left. Complications with her contacts caused her to sit the remainder of the period.
In the 76-23 victory for the Lady Panthers, point guard Jayda Brown led all scorers with 20 points on the night. She was most excited for Allen in her big night.
"I knew Yasmine since the third grade, so it's good to see her come up and do great things," said Brown. "I'm very proud of her."
The backcourt duo combined for six of the 10 made three-pointers for Forest Park. Their outside shooting opened up opportunities for scoring inside, whether if it were finishes around the rim or a dump-off to a teammate.
With this win, Forest Park improves to 13-3 while maintaining their undefeated regional (8-0) and home (3-0) record.
