HAMPTON After losing yesterday's matchup against Westlake High School, the Lady Wildcats took care of business at home against the Lady Cardinals.
Jonesboro was without the primary pitcher Cayla Crooks, so junior Angella Johnson pitched for the Lady Cardinals.
With bases loaded at the bottom of the first, senior Jazmine Botello takes to the plate. Lovejoy scored a run with Botello walking to first off being hit by the pitch, with freshman Shunya Bruton being the one running home.
Again with bases loaded, senior Raven Sims takes to the plate. An error by the infield led to two Lady Wildcats stealing home. Botello followed suit, stealing home and bringing the score to 4-0 Lovejoy.
The Lady Wildcats scored one last run before a runner got caught stealing third base. At the end of the first inning, Lovejoy was ahead 5-0.
At the top of the second, Jonesboro had bases loaded, but Lovejoy's pitcher, Sydney Willis, prevented any further advancement. She struck out two batters and caught a popfly foul ball to end the top of the second.
Lovejoy scored seven more runs at the bottom of the second. The most notably play came from Botello hitting deep to left field with bases loaded. Errors led to three Lady Wildcats runs and Botello to second base.
At the end of second, Lovejoy led 12-0.
Jonesboro scored a run from senior Kayla Rice, but that would be the only run they would have. Lovejoy scored a run too and the third inning ended with both teams scoring a run a piece.
A double play and a force out from Lovejoy ended the game at the top of the fourth with a final score of 13-1.
This marks the second matchup between these teams and both times Lovejoy triumphed.
